Eine Fachgesellschaft ist der Zusammenschluss von wissenschaftlich aktiven oder interessierten Personen in einem Fachgebiet.
GTI-D hat versucht sich einen Überblick über die in Deutschland, Europa und international angesiedelten Fachgesellschaften zu verschaffen. Allein für Deutschland haben wir circa 70 Fachgesellschaften ausfündig gemacht, die häufig regional organisiert sind. Hierbei reichen die Mitgliederzahlen von wenigen Personen bis hin zu 5000 Mitgliedern.
